i’ve decided to follow jesus

Welcome to the family! We are so excited that you have made the decision to follow Jesus Christ! This page will tell you about what your next steps are moving forward, who you have become, and we would love for you to let us know about your decision!

What are my next steps?

Following Jesus is a lifelong relationship. saying a prayer is a great first step, but it should not be the last one.

Acts 2:41-42 tells us, “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” This is what the very early church did, and what we are trying to do at Grace Church as well. Your first steps should follow a similar pattern.

1. be baptized

Baptism is a public declaration of your decision to follow Jesus. It is a physical representation of the renewed life we now have thanks to the redeeming grace of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Through baptism, you say goodbye to your old self and are washed cleaned to begin your new life with Jesus!

2. read the bible

This means we should commit to studying the Bible because it is our physical copy of the Word of God; he speaks to us through the words of scripture. Join the Way of Jesus Equip Class to learn how to study the word, more about who Jesus is, and what it looks like to be devoted to His teachings!

3. join a community

All throughout his ministry, Jesus met people over a shared meal in someone’s home. At Grace, this happens in House Church. If you have yet to join one, we highly suggest finding a House Church near you to walk in community with other people who know and love following Jesus!

4. devote to prayer

Just like it is hard to have a relationship with people we do not talk to anymore, it is hard to have a relationship with God without talking to him. Prayer is how we do that. At Grace there are many opportunities to learn how to pray, to pray with others, and to pray for our church.

5. start serving

Jesus lived a life of humility and sacrifice for others. He did not come to be served but to serve others (Mark 10:45). We must also serve others in our lives. We encourage you to start serving at Grace as a way to practice living a humble and sacrificial life like Jesus lived.

6. become a member

Just as the members of the early church were devoted to fellowship, we too should be devoted to our church. Membership is the next step of commitment where you care about what is happening at Grace and we care extra about your personal gifts and personality that the Lord can use to bless us!

Who have i become?

You have been transformed by his love and grace!

When you follow Jesus, you become a child of God, a disciple, a witness, and a member of the Body of Christ. You are equipped by the Holy Spirit to live with purpose, hope, and love. Ultimately, you reflect Christ's character in the world to live out His mission and advance His Kingdom.

What does following jesus look like?

It is an everlasting relationship with him.

To follow Jesus is to commit to a personal relationship with Him, guided by faith, love, repentance, and obedience. It's about becoming more like Him, loving others as He did, and sharing His message with the world. It's a lifelong journey of growth, transformation, and service, always striving to reflect God's love and truth.

  • Following Jesus begins with believing that He is the Son of God, who came to earth to reveal God's love, teach about the Kingdom of God, and ultimately die for our sins. Jesus' resurrection is central to the Christian faith, offering eternal life to all who believe in Him.

  • It also means turning away from sin and selfish ways. It involves repentance, which means to change your mind and direction, aligning your heart and actions with God’s will. Following Jesus is about seeking forgiveness for past mistakes and choosing to live according to His standards.

  • Jesus' life and words provide a blueprint for how to live. This includes loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and loving others as yourself. It also involves living a life of humility, service, kindness, forgiveness, and sacrifice, just as Jesus did. It means seeking to love and care for others, especially those in need.

  • Following Jesus means living in obedience to the commands He gave us, both in the Gospels and throughout the New Testament. This involves putting God's will above your own, trusting that His way is the best for you.

  • When you follow Jesus, you receive the Holy Spirit, who empowers and transforms you. The Holy Spirit helps you live out the Christian life, guiding you, convicting you of sin, comforting you, and empowering you to serve others. Over time, following Jesus leads to a change in your heart and character (often referred to as the fruit of the Spirit).

  • Jesus called His followers to spread the good news of salvation. Following Him means sharing His love with others, making disciples, and helping others come to know the truth of who Jesus is. This can be through your actions, words, and lifestyle.

  • Following Jesus also means persevering in your faith, even when challenges and trials arise. It involves trusting in Jesus' promises, especially the hope of eternal life, even when circumstances are difficult.

Don’t keep it secret.

Whether you have decided to follow Jesus Christ from praying with us on Sunday Service, in House Church, or you recently got baptized and made your decision public, we would love to walk with you through what this looks like moving forward.
