Missionaries - Curtis & Barbara Waite
February 2009
Dear Friends of the Lighthouse,
Rejoice with us in God's provision. The last two months of 2008 were probably the best months financially for the radio station on our thirty-three years of operation! The need was great and great was the answer to prayer! We praise the Lord that, thanks to the generous giving of His people, we should hopefully have sufficient funds to keep us out of the red until the Lord brings in new support. Thanks for your prayers.
While the ministry is still considerably under-supported, and the need for an increase in regular monthly giving to met our budget remains, the pressure has been taken off for the immediate future, giving us some breathing room to raise new support. We would appreciate your prayers as we contact churches for meetings to present the Lighthouse ministry.
With this continued need to raise support in mind, we are making some changes at the radio station. As the director of the BMI radio-station-involved ministries here in Antigua, maintaining support is primarily my responsibility. In order to meet the need to spend more time at this, and to do so without creating discontinuity at the station, I will be stepping down from my position and day-to-day responsibilities as Station Manager and Jerry Baker will be this over. That will give me more freedom to travel as needed. Barb and I will still be living in and working out of Antigua, and I will remain as the Director of the Antigua branch of Baptist International Missions, Inc. I will continue directing the Spanish ministry of CRL. When we are in Antigua, which will still be a majority of the time, I will be fully involved with the radio ministry and will fill in as manger any time Jerry is off the island.
Jerry has been given a clean bill of health after a scare with his heart (false alarm), and he and Linda returned to Antigua the 15th of January. Barb and I will be heading up to the States for several months on Jan 30 to begin contacting pastors and lining up meetings. Ken and Nancy Kirkland continue their faithful ministry with the Lighthouse and will be working with the Bakers while we are gone.
In the past couple of months we have begun several excellent new broadcasts, and response has been good. We look forward to the outreach opportunities the Lord has put before us in the New Year.
Please remember these prayer needs:
- For a pastor for the Spanish church as the Laureano's job will be moving them from Antigua in May.
- For safety for Barb and me as we travel and for good contacts for support with churches.
- For Nathan Owens and Renee, as they marry and begin deputation in the spring.
- For our application for a second FM frequency to be approved by the government.
- For our lease renewal application to be quickly processed in the New Year.
Thank you for being a part of the Lighthouse ministry.
Yours in Christ,
Curt Waite
