Missionaries - Bob & Char Reehm

May 2010 Update:
Dear All,
I leave in about an hour to drive to
As the Ministry Director for the festivals, I am responsible for recruiting and training 400-500 folks to assist in the 15 altar calls that are scheduled to take place 28-30 May. I am also scheduled to speak twice on Purity issues: once to the training program and once at a seminar open to the general public. I will also be conducing numerous training sessions on evangelism.
I covet your prayers:
-For safety,
-for spiritual protection,
-for the Lord's anointing on me as I speak and minister,
-for stamina,
-for a full harvest of souls to be won for Christ.
Thanks
Bob

Dear Friends,
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST
'When I keep my eyes on Jesus, I consider trials to be my friends…' Elizabeth Elliot from 31 Days of Praise written by Ruth Myers
Char has inherited the same kidney disease that killed her grandma, her mom, and her aunt. Ten years ago, her only brother had a kidney transplant. We've known that Char has had this disease, Alport's syndrome, for about 7 years. For the first six of those years, the disease had not progressed, and then about 18 months ago, the disease went active. Since then, Char has gone from 55% kidney function to 21% kidney function. She is currently losing about 1-2% function each month. Unless God chooses to sovereignly and graciously intervene with a miracle and stops this disease or reverses it, then at the 20% function level, Char would be placed on the National Kidney transplant list. There are two ways to find a matching kidney. If someone dies and they have expressed a desire to donate their organs upon death, this is called a 'cadaver kidney'. Based on Char's blood type O+, there is a 7 year wait in CA for this type of kidney. The second way is for someone living to donate a matching kidney. If such a person with a matching kidney is willing and able, then the transplant would take place around the 12- 15% level of function. If God does not heal, or provide a kidney, she would be placed on kidney dialysis. Dialysis is a process where her blood is removed from her body, filtered and then put back into her body. This process would be a four hour process done every other day or so. This all means that within the next month or so, unless God, the great physician, and in accordance with His will, chooses to look with favor on us, Char will be placed on the transplant list. It is possible that within the next year or so, again unless God intervenes, or a kidney becomes available, she will have to start dialysis. Once on dialysis, she would stay on dialysis until a matching kidney is found.
Mt 18:19 says, "Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. (RSV)"
Would you please take a moment and lift Char up in prayer? Please join with us in forming a beautiful symphony to God of joint prayer in asking our awesome God to STOP the progress of this disease and to HEAL Char.
We are starting our last phase of this Sabbatical process. We look at everything we have done in the past and try to figure out before the Lord where our best 'fit' for future ministry will be. What is the best use of our gifts, capacities, passions, talents, desires of our heart, etc. for the next phase of our lives? How God chooses to answer regarding Char's health condition has obvious implications for us as we start this last phase of our Sabbatical. My first 'ministry' is to Char, to care for and be with her.
Here are some questions that we are pondering: If God says "NO" to miraculous healing, we'll trust in His goodness to us. But then should we move to another area of the country that may have a shorter wait list for a donor kidney? Do we move away from the Monterey area where we have lived for the past 19 years and abandon her emotional and relational support network? How much travel, if any, should I consider in any future ministry 'jobs'? If God says "YES" to healing, we'll rejoice, and consider all options for future ministry.
Love,
Bob & Char
