The band is the real deal.
If you’ve ever been to Grace, then you have experienced our worship
band and have heard their skillz. Seriously, these guys are talented.
But do you ever look on stage and wonder what happens when they’re
off the platform? Ever wonder what they are really like?
Well, first of all, I want you to know, honestly… they are flawed. (And you
are too, so don’t be so surprised.) But beyond the fact that
we are all human and struggle through life in certain ways, I want to take a few seconds and rave about the guys that help lead you in worship every week. These guys love Jesus. Honestly, they amaze with the energy they spend striving to live lives of purity and honor. Its "top of the mind" for them. They are guys who
lay their pride down and sacrifice personal agenda for the sake of the
body of Christ. They play for God’s glory and
hope that on Sundays, when you look on stage, you don’t see them...but you see Jesus. In fact, behind the scenes, we actually call the band "GOY," which stands for Get Over Yourself. Its just a small reminder to us that this is not about us. We meet weekly to practice. We constantly strive to be excellent at what we do, so that hopefully we are not a distraction to anyone,
but rather a tool that God uses to usher you into His presence.
We also spend time being real together.
We share life together. We ask for prayer, we admit our struggles,
we encourage each other, we hold each other accountable, we pray together,
we pray for you and we make sure we are focused on our purpose: to draw Grace San Diego into
authentic worship. It is an honor to lead this group of guys and it has been an incredible experience
to partner in ministry with them. So next Sunday, when you look
up and see the band rockin’ out, take a moment to pray for us. Pray that God would continue to strip away any pride. Pray for our purity. Pray for our spiritual growth.
Pray that God would continue to grow us – as musicians and as men
of God. Pray that God
would bless these guys and their families. They're not the only ones
who sacrifice for the sake of this ministry. They have wives and
kids who sacrifice as well. Pray that God would bless them. I'd also ask that you'd thank God for these guys. They bless our church
in a very unique way. Take a moment and thank God for using them
as a powerful tool in our worship. The band loves this church
and Jesus deeply. They really are the real deal.
