Tough Choices

May 30, 2008

Last Thursday I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. There was so many times in the movie that I was truly moved, inspired, and reminded of what it means to have faith. It sounds so silly, but the movie was magical to me because of how it showed the consequences of the choices we make, and how it clearly portrayed a child's ability to see God.

If you haven't seen the movie, there is one scene that brought tears to my eyes. Lucy (the youngest girl) sees Aslan, but her brothers and sisters don't believe her, so she doesn't go to him. Later in the movie, Lucy is talking to Aslan and questions why he doesn't show up sooner to help. Aslan wonders why she didn't follow him even though she saw him. Lucy stares back at Aslan and proclaims that the others didn't believe her. I am totally butchering this powerful scene-but the bottom line is that Aslan confronts Lucy about not following him because of the others and their opinions.

Wow! How many times have I not stood up for Truth because I was too scared or concerned with someone else's view of me? Lucy had to make a choice, and she chose to go with her brothers and sisters even though she knew what was right. She saw Aslan, but chose to walk away from him. Sometimes we have to make hard choices; choices that might even hurt people, change their view of who you are, or choices that aren't popular. I want to encourage you, friends, even if people turn their back on you, don't turn your back on God. If God is calling you to take a chance, make a change, or do something unpopular, do it! People might not like it or even you, but you will have the courage to face God and know that you chose Him over others opinions. What greater joy could there be but to know that you are following God despite the world around you?
