Don't Forget Your Sun Screen

CROWDS! TRAFFIC! HEAT! Recently I returned from a quick trip to Sacramento and while waiting in endless lines in the airport I was again reminded of how many people travel this time of year. When I arrived there the temperature was a scathing 107 degrees and I thought I would faint in the heat while waiting for my dad to pick me up curbside. I'm such a wimp when it comes to unbearable heat. All I could think about was how much I missed our gorgeous climate in San Diego and the inviting beaches of Coronado. Ahhhh, that's the good life. Instead I was kicking myself for not bringing a bottle of water, some sunscreen and a good wide-brim straw hat to block out the sun...if only I had been more equipped.
I don't know about you, but as each season of the year concludes and a new one begins I am forever caught off guard and not feeling totally ready for all the adjustments that need to be made. I think the same applies to my spiritual walk. Just as I feel like I may be making progress and head way in one direction, the gears are shifted and a whole new challenge comes my way. I've come to determine in my life that God is genuinely NOT interested in my comfort level but in developing and shaping my character. Oh yes.... and that there really is NO SUCH THING as a ‘spiritual' vacation. Instead I have learned that the key is to continually prepare my spirit for change, equip my heart with God's Word, surround myself with others that will do the same and be ready always for the many life-lessons He is faithful to bring.
I pray that each of you in our Grace family will have a blessed, safe summer filled with great moments and memories. I also pray that you will continue to fit into your busy life schedule time for worship, connection, serving, and reaching others in your circle of influence. One more thing: (please indulge the mom in me) don't forget to drink LOTS of water and slather on some SPF!!!
